Virginia Ruth Tunmire

Virginia Ruth (Hoffmeyer) Tunmire, age 79, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026 at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 5th at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with Pastors B.J. Williams and Jerry Arthur officiating. There will be a visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 4th at the funeral home.

Virginia was born November 6, 1946 to Lawrence and Ruby Meta (Zipperlen) Hoffmeyer in Waco, Texas. She was married for 24 years to Shelby Tunmire and they enjoyed travelling and touring. She loved listening to Shelby play guitar and sing in his Bluegrass band Brazosgrass.

She got great joy from attending all of the sporting events in which her grandchildren participated. From football games to basketball games to track meets and baseball/softball games. She was always there to support and cheer for them. She loved spending time with her grandchildren cooking and playing games.

She was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of Meier Settlement Methodist Church in Riesel. Her faith was evident in her everyday life by sharing it with others. The most important thing to her was speaking about her love for the Lord, as her faith was the foundation of her entire life. She served on church committees and was a member of the United Methodist Women's group She was known for her strong faith and making sure others knew about the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Ruby Hoffmeyer.

Virginia is survived by her husband Shelby Tunmire, daughters Shannon Zander, Cindy Davis, and Kathy Scott. Grandchildren Dalton Zander, Ashlyn Zander, Kelly Griffin and husband John, and Justin Scott and wife Callie, and great-grandchildren Nadia and Aidan Zander. Siblings Judy Guyer and husband David, Tom Hoffmeyer and wife Kathy, George Hoffmeyer and wife Rebecca. Nephew Cameron Hoffmeyer and family and niece Caitlin Roberson and family and numerous cousins.
