Shirley Becker

January 30, 1936 — July 16, 2023

Shirley Ann Becker passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023 at a local assisted living facility. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 21 at Waco Memorial Park with Pastor Joel Boesche officiating. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.

Shirley was born on January 30, 1936 to Herbert and Velma Petrich in the community of Battle, McLennan County, Texas. She married Leroy Becker on April 16, 1955 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waco, Texas. They were blessed to have 58 years together. Shirley spent most of her career working as a medical office administrator for numerous physician offices in Waco. She retired from Waco Orthopedic Clinic after many years of dedication. She and Leroy were in bowling leagues and loved playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. Shirley did volunteer work at Ascension Providence Hospital and with Lutheran Braille Workers. She was a member of the Historic Waco Foundation and a "red hat" group. Shirley's mode of transportation should have been a moving van as she would have moved into a different house every year if she would have had her way. She loved to travel. Whether it was to Wisconsin to see dear friends or to Alaska on a cruise. She loved her family with all her heart and was the happiest when the whole family could gather together. There was no such thing as "too much" time together as a family as far as she was concerned. She loved spending time playing board games with her great-grandchildren, reading books and working word search and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mildred Rosen; her husband; her brothers-in-law, Walter Becker and wife Gladys and Marvin Becker and wife Imogene; her sister-in-law Evelyn Sommerfeld and husband Wesley; granddaughter, Christi Howell; nephews, Ronnie Becker and Keith Becker and niece, Kathy Kubitza.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Glockzin and husband Mike and Terri Becker; her son, Brian Becker and wife Tammy; her grandchildren, Tori Armstrong and husband Brian, Richard Jander and wife Andrea, Bradley Jander and wife Jen, Jason Howell, Brittany Ross and husband Taylor, Meagan McFarlane and husband Brennon, Blake Love-Becker and wife Rachel, and McKenna Becker; great-grandchildren, David Howell, Austin Jander, Abigail Howell, Reid Jander, William Armstrong, Zachary Armstrong, Ella Jander, Adalyn Ross, Hudson Ross and Micah McFarlane; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews that she loved very much.
