Sharon Virginia (DuBose) Holmes, 78, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Mills Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, at the funeral home.
Sharon was born in DeRidder, Louisiana, to Aubrey and Pinnice (Whiddon) DuBose. She married Curtis Calvin Holmes on September 7, 1963. She faithfully supported her husband in his calling to serve the Lord, standing beside him with strength and unwavering devotion. She was a prayer warrior that spent hours each day praying for her family and church.
Sharon believed in caring for others first, and she lived that belief daily. She spent Saturday nights in the 1990’s cooking for and feeding the homeless at Mission of Freedom in Waco. She was loved by all that knew her.
Sharon loved to cook and found great joy in collecting and reading cookbooks. She especially enjoyed the Pioneer Woman. She loved collecting Pioneer Woman dishes and going to thrift stores. In her later years, she enjoyed watching war films and classic Westerns, especially those starring John Wayne.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 56 years, Calvin Curtis Holmes, Sr. her son, Curtis Calvin “CJ” Holmes, Jr.; parents, Aubrey and Pinnice DuBose; and son-in-law, Larry King.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia King and Mark Cugal, Sherry Baker and husband Gary, and Audrey Forde and husband Barry; sisters, Sherry Baker and husband James; and Betty Phillips and husband Billy; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, along with her nieces, nephews and other family members.
The family would like to give special thanks to Jamie Rysewyk, Kaileigh Huddleston, and Reba Huddleston, for the compassionate care given to Sharon in the last years and months of her life, along with AccentCare Hospice, especially to Abby, RN and Brenda, RN.
