Sandra Leverne Mitchell

Sandra “Leverne” Mitchell, 82, of Elm Mott, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 09, 2026. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday August 16, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home located at 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco. Funeral services will be 10am Monday, August 17, 2026, at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Robinson Cemetery.

Sandra was born on October 19, 1943, in Waco, Texas to Aldern Allen York and Essie Marcella York (Coble). She never met a stranger she was a caring and giving person. She retired from Owens Illinois glass plant, was an Ombudsman for the state of Texas (elderly care), a notary, later in life attended McLennan Community College. “Yes, she went to college!” Sandra loved to quilt, crochet, create wood crafts, travel, and spend time with her family and her best friend, Ruddie Tusa. She cherished her pets: parrot, Gabby and dog, Honey-Bee.

Sandra was preceded in death by her father, Aldern Allen York; mother, Essie Marcella York (Coble); brothers, George Allen York, William Michael York, Clinton Wayne York; sisters, Linda Pearl Knaub and Mary Arlene Holder; husband, Willis Andrews Mitchell; and late husband, Clyde Damon Foster; grandson, Richard Angel Garcia.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Coy York and wife Tracy, Craig Shelton, Marcella Shelton-Chavez and husband Mark. Her grandchildren, Christopher York, Aaron Moreno, Brandon Moreno, Ashley May, Destinee Shelton, Riva Hart (Shelton), Joshua York; along with 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Bobby York and wife Tracy, Alton Leon York, Clifford York and wife Michelle, and Robert York.

She will truly be missed by her friends and family.

Pallbearers will be Christopher York, Aaron Moreno, Brandon Moreno, Martin Chavez, Fernando Martinez, and Josiah Moreno. Honorary bearers are Levi-James May, Clarence-Jayce May, Brandon Moreno Jr., Jaylen Hart, Giorgio Moreno.
