Rufus Leon Wallace Sr., age 96, of Waco went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 19 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with Pastor Dustin Woolam officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Waco Memorial Park. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 18 at the funeral home.
Rufus was born January 2, 1929, to Cady Frank and Edna Lee (Blankenship) Wallace in Mart, Texas. Rufus went to school in Mart, Texas and enlisted in the Navy at age 17. He then reenlisted in the Airforce at 19 and served during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was in the military for almost 23 years. After retirement he attended business college and worked for the U.S. Postal Service until he completely retired. He was a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church in Robinson.
He married the love of his life, Geraldine E Ross, on September 1, 1960. She was by his side and traveled everywhere the military took them. After retirement He enjoyed horseback riding, Riding in trail rides, and extensive camping trips. They enjoyed spending time with their family and grandchildren camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 43 years; son, Johnny Wallace; daughter, Sharon Dickey; 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Rufus is survived by his children, a son Rufus Leon Wallace Jr, and wife Brooke of Robinson TX; a daughter, Sharon Wimberly of Coppel TX; grandchildren, Ashley Romero and husband Kyle, Austin Wallace, Tessa Vaughan and husband James, Ty Croford, Travis Wimberly and wife Glenda, Tessa Duke and husband Michael, Matthew, Zachary, Caitlin and Jack Wallace. Byron Goss and Becky Goss; great-grandchildren, Carter Wallace, Elijah Vaughan, Waylon Wallace, Saylor Wallace, Alister Wimberly, and Miles Wimberly.
