Roger Dale Wilcox

January 26, 1941 — April 2, 2026

Roger Dale Wilcox went home to glory on April 2, 2026. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Robinson, Texas with Minister Charlie Thomason presiding.

Roger Dale Wilcox was born on January 26th, 1941 in Barnesville, Ohio to Clarence and Thelma Wilcox. Due to his mother’s unexpected passing shortly after his birth, Roger was lovingly raised by his grandparents’, Edward and Ethel Book of Barnesville, Ohio. Roger spent his early days playing high school football and spending his summers working in hayfields in the Ohio countryside.

After graduation, Roger bravely enlisted in the Army where he served as a Nike Hercules Missile Operator for 3 years. Shortly after his enlistment ended, Roger moved to Canton, Ohio where he met the love of his life, Glenda. They married in June 1968 and relocated to Rochester, Michigan. In 1970, Roger was overjoyed at the arrival of his son, Roger Dale Wilcox II and was proud to have a namesake. After re-enlisting in 1974, Roger was stationed at Fort Hood and the Wilcox family built their life in central Texas. In 1983, Roger met the apple of his eye when his daughter, Robin, was born.

Roger and Glenda spent their years creating a life based on faith and family. Roger believed the transforming power of the gospel to be the truth and treated everyone he encountered with the tenderness of Christ. The cornerstone of Roger’s life was his faith in Jesus and he lived with humility, integrity, and kindness. Roger shared those values with everyone he worked alongside and crossed paths with in his everyday life.

Upon retiring from a 26 year career with the United States Postal Service, Roger enjoyed spending his days watching Gunsmoke and being a dedicated member of New Road Church of Christ.

Roger considered his biggest blessings to be his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was dedicated to his grandson, Kaleb, and looked for any opportunity to show Kaleb how important he was to him. Roger delighted in the way his granddaughter, Keely, laughed and would make silly faces at her to see her smile. He liked to joke across the table with his granddaughter, Ashton, and always taught her to love your neighbor as yourself. Roger was someone who operated with gentleness and took the time to help his grandchildren do things like help turtles cross the road. They will certainly miss their PawPaw.

Roger is deeply missed by Glenda and their family. They anticipate the day they reunite in Heaven.

Roger is proceeded in death by his mother, Thelma Wilcox, his father Clarence Wilcox, his 5 brothers; Raymond, Bob, Don, Pete, and Jim, and his stepmother Flossie Wilcox.

He was survived by his wife of 57 years, Glenda Wilcox of Robinson, Texas, his son, Roger Dale Wilcox II and daughter-in-law Regina of Hewitt, Texas, daughter Robin Johnson and son-in-law Doug of Bastrop, Texas, four grandchildren; Ashton Wyatt and husband Mikeal of Lorena, Texas, Justine Brezza and husband Ryan of San Angelo, Texas, Kaleb Long of Robinson, Texas and Keely Long of Hutto, Texas. 7 great grandchildren; Jezzy Brezza, Briella Brezza, Addilyn Wilcox and Walker Brezza of San Angelo, Texas, Hazel, Harrison and Harper Jean Wyatt of Lorena, Texas with 3 more expected in October. His 3 brothers, Butch Wilcox and wife Helen of Barnesville, Ohio, Dennis Wilcox and wife Jody of Somerton, Ohio, Kenny Wilcox of Highland Springs, Virginia, 2 sisters - Sandy Milhoan of Granville, Ohio, Mary Bussard and husband Tony of Gahanna, Ohio.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, nursing assistants, chaplain and social workers of Interim Palliative Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
