Richard (Rick) Garcia Alonso passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 8, 2022. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, May 16, 2022 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Julian Garcia officiating.
He was born on December 28, 1958 to John DeLeon Alonso and Rosa Garcia Alonso in Waco, TX. He is the second oldest of nine. From a child into adulthood, he was creative, curious, and inventive. He was a graduate of University High School where he had a passion for art and football. He was a lover of music and always had a song in his heart.
Richard had an excellent work ethic and was always very punctual. He was a longtime employee with Young Brothers Inc. Contractors, Neely Sand & Gravel, and retired from Imperial Woodworks. He was born and raised in Waco and had many friends. He always had a catch phrase and had a great sense of humor.
He enjoyed life and being with his family and friends. He absolutely loved being a Papaw. His grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rosa Alonso; sons, John Donald Alonso, Richard Gonzales Alonso; and brother, Mario Garcia Alonso.
Survivors are his wife of 45 years, Vera Alonso; daughter, Veronica Alonso; grandchildren, Valencia Alonso, Ariel Alonso, Richard Aidan (Bubba) Alonso, Abigail Garcia, and Analeigh Garcia; brothers, John, George, Jerry, David, and Joe; sisters, Rose Mary Farfan and Gloria Schauer; along with several nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces.
Pallbearers are John Alonso, George Alonso, Jerry Alonso, Joe Alonso, David Alonso, Jody Schauer. Honorary pallbearers are Richard Aidan Alonso, AJ Pecina, and Tony Alonso.
