Lloyd Strickland

Sep 2, 1947 — Oct 28, 2026

Lloyd Strickland, 79, passed away on October 28, 2026. Born September 2, 1947, Lloyd was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, talented musician, skilled carpenter and, above all, a man who knew how to keep people laughing.

Lloyd married JoNell in 1965. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Lloyd was a strikingly handsome man—he could have given Elvis a run for his money—and he always took pride in looking his best. Lloyd never lost his love of joking and teasing those around him.

Lloyd was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and his Savior. Gospel music held a special place in his heart.

His love of drums began with his uncle, Buddy Royals. His first gig was at My Room Lounge, and he flourished from there. Known as one of the best swing drummers in Texas, Lloyd sat in with Charlie Pride, Lou Rochelle and some of the finest Texas swing musicians. He regularly played with Bobby James and the James Gang, Sterling Kelly & The Hearts, as well as Clinton Taylor.

By day, Lloyd was an excellent carpenter, a trade he learned from his father in law, George Larza, and passed on to his sons. He also loved hunting and fishing, passions he shared with his sons and grandchildren. Whether he was working with his hands, playing music or giving someone a hard time, Lloyd brought his own unmistakable spirit to everything he did.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, William Ted Strickland, Sr. And Lois; his brothers, Jimmy, Floyd—his twin—and William “Ted” Strickland; his sister, Helen Massengil; his precious granddaughter, Courtnee Strickland; and his best little buddy, his dog Petey.

He is survived by his wife, JoNell Strickland of Eddy; his daughter, Jodi Harper and husband Dean of Bruceville; his sons, Bubba Strickland and wife Melissa of Eddy, and Mikie Strickland and wife Nickie of Moody. Also, his sisters-in-law: Nelda Williams, and husband, Joe of Lorena; Judy Roach, and husband, Ron of Lorena; Patricia Taylor, and husband, Tim of Eddy; and Darlene Strickland of Hewitt.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Strickland Jr. and wife Morgan of Bruceville; Lance Flanary of Lott; Dillon Harper and wife Madi of Eddy; and Danielle Hohhertz and husband Reece of Bruceville; Colton Thornton and wife Skylar of Oglesby; Halston Strickland and girlfriend, Lizzie Stone of Eddy; Zach Sehon of Eddy; Holli Lathern and husband Bill of Robinson. His great-grandchildren are: Nolan Biddy; Waylon and Bowen Strickland; Ellie Harper Allen and Harlyn Hohhertz; Holland Harper; Weston and Hayston Thornton, Blayne & Blaire Dawson, and little Ruth. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and incredibly dear friends.
