Katherine Ann Baker

March 27, 1945 — December 6, 2025

Hewitt

Katherine Ann Baker went to be with her Lord on December 6, 2025. She was born in Yuma, Arizona on March 27, 1945, to John Bee Gordon Colston and Katherine Mabel Colston (Brewer.) Katherine and her parents eventually settled in Dumas, Texas, near Amarillo, where she spent her formative years. She worked in several occupations, but the majority of her career was in the field of banking.

It was in Amarillo that she met the love of her life, John J. Baker, in 2000. After a brief courtship, she and John were married in Dumas on July 4, 2000. By then, John was retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant, followed by a career as a veterans’ counselor for the State of Texas.

They were married for 25 years at the time of her passing.

Katherine’s strong faith in the Lord was the guiding force in her life and formed the basis for all of her activities. She was blessed with two children, Kathy and Billy, grandchildren and great grandchildren (one of whom was born the day of Katherine and John’s wedding – what a wedding present that was!) Katherine passed her faith along to her family, and they are firm believers in the goodness of the Lord. She and John attended church at Life Tabernacle in Dumas, Trinity Fellowship Church, Amarillo, Glory of Zion, Corinth, and High Point Church, Waco.

Katherine’s hobbies centered on the reading of the bible and books written by leaders of churches she attended, primarily from Glory of Zion, and attending various annual festivities there with her husband. She also loved going to movies with John.

She also liked to travel with her husband, both to her husband’s home state of New York (Buffalo), where she met John’s family members, and outside of the United States. They also went by train from Buffalo to New York City to visit Ground Zero, One World Observatory and the 9/11 museum.

They went on two cruises together, with the first being from New York City up the coast of the Atlantic Ocean to Nova Scotia, then working their way back down the coast with various stops before arriving back in New York City. For the second cruise, they flew to Rome, Italy for three days to see the sights and then went on an eleven-day cruise on the Mediterranean, with ports of call including Florence (arriving there on Palm Sunday), Naples (visiting Pompeii), Barcelona, Spain, Monaco, and France.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Betty and Connie, and three brothers, Donald, Wayne and James.

She will be greatly missed by all who know and loved her.
