A graveside service will be held at Robinson Cemetery at 1p.m. on July 16, 2025.
Joy was born on August 27, 1943 in Waco, Texas to Amouls Richter and Sammie (Westerfield) Richter at Hillcrest Hospital. She was raised on a farm near Coryell City. After the tragic loss of her father in a tractor accident on April 12, 1944, her mother later married Herman Richter on June 26, 1946 who lovingly raised Joy, her brother and twin sister as his own. A bright student, Joy graduated with honors from Gatesville High School in 1961.
She married the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Leuschner on October 12, 1963 at St John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. Together, they made their home in Robinson, Texas and became members of St. John United Church of Christ in April 1965.
Joy began her professional career at William Cameron & Co. from 1961-1965, and in 1966 became the Chief Financial Officer of the family business, a role she held while also running the family household with three young boys. Additionally, she served as an election worker for Democratic Primaries in 1988 and 1990.
Joy was deeply committed to her church and community. She served as a youth leader at St John United Church of Christ for more than 12 years, was a Sunday school teacher for over 15 years, and served on the church council. She also volunteered as cub scout leader for a decade and worked as a summer camp cook at Masters Workshop Camp where her beloved West Texas spaghetti became a favorite among campers.
Joy and her husband enjoyed hanging out with their friend group named “Jest Friends”, taking trips, playing lots of games, eating lots of foods and enjoying plenty of laughter.
Joy is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Kenneth Ray Leuschner, and by their three sons: Greg Leuschner of Forney; Jeff Leuschner and his wife Stephanie of Wylie; and Brad Leuschner and his wife Tammie of Brenham. Joy was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren: Cody (wife Charis), Brittney, McKenzie (husband Connor), Landon, Logan, Austin (wife Emily) and Zachary. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren Daisy Lynne and Bentley Xavier and one unborn great grandchild, Elaine Joy, due in October. Joy was also survived by her twin sister Jean Attebery.
Joy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her warmth, kindness, and tireless dedication to her family and community will never be forgotten
