John Jordan

June 23, 1914 — July 15, 2005

John D. Jordan (J.D.), 91,of Waco went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 15, 2005. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday July 19, 2005 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home with Revs Larry Reynolds, Curtis Holland and Roger Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. John D. Jordan (J.D.) was born in Bosque County, near Meridian Texas on 6/23/1914 to Andy B. and Lois (Hanna) Jordan. Graduated from Leveland High School in 5/19/1931.Played semi-pro baseball and softball and farmed. Served in the U.S.Navy from 1942-1945. Worked for the Texas Employment Commission in Littlefield, Tx for 10 years and in Waco for 22 years. Married Anita Ruth Hanks 12/31/1939. J.D. was active in coaching softball and baseball for a number of years as his children Joan and Johnny grew up. He accepted Christ as Savior in 1926 at the age of 12 and was baptized in the Bosque River at Hanna's Crossing. He was ordained a deacon in 1946 and served as a Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Littlefield Baptist Church, North Waco Baptist Church, and Western Heights Baptist Church. Taught Sunday School for several years in the Junior Dept, Intermediate Dept. and the Adult Dept. Enjoyed sports, reading, traveling. He had been to 47 of the 50 states. Loved Gospel Music, and his aim in life was to faithfully serve his Lord and family and to make things a little better for those around him. He was preceded in death by his parents Andy and Lois Jordan. He is survived by his wife Anita Jordan of Waco, daughter Joan of California, son Johnny Jordan and wife Janice of Waco, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1311 N New Road, Waco Texas 76710.
