Jerry Odell Whitt

Jerry Odell Whitt of Bellmead passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. Visitation with the family will be Thursday, July 9th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Friday, July 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Rosemound Cemetery with son in-law, Keith Reid officiating.

Born and raised in Bellmead, Jerry attended La Vega High School where he was a pitcher on the La Vega Pirates baseball team. After graduating in 1966, he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but due to his commitment to his country, Jerry was shipped off to Vietnam where he fought in the war in the Central Highland Mountains from 1967-1969. Being a dedicated soldier, Jerry earned 2 Purple Hearts, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Sharpshooter Medal and a badge for M-14.

Jerry worked for Owens-Illinois Glass Plant for 38 years and retired in 2012. His hobbies included fishing at TP&L Lake and watching his favorite baseball team, the New York Yankees. On April 17, 1992, Jerry married the love of his life, Vickie Broome and they shared 34 years together.

Jerry’s parents, Ernest and Billie Jean Whitt preceded him in death.

PawPaw is survived by his wife, Vickie Broome Whitt; children, Teresa Reid and husband, Keith of Robinson; Gary Pack and wife, Wendi of Robinson; grandchildren, Christopher Reid (Nicole) of Smiley, Katie Costner (John) of McGregor, Erica Pack of Austin, Ryan Reid (Sam) of Waco, Madison Reid of Robinson, Addison Pack of Robinson and Gavin Pack of Robinson; great-grandchildren are Christopher II, Sarah Ann, Jack, Emma, Jensen and Jared.

PawPaw is also survived by his dog, Dixie.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Gary Pack, Gavin Pack, Christopher Reid, Ryan Reid, Jimmy Broome and Steve Nichols.

We will all miss the way he loved to make us laugh. Those stories will live forever in the family. But the story we will be happiest to share is that Jerry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in the last months of his life.

We celebrate the fact that Jerry met Jesus this week and will be waiting for us when we get there. The family would like to give special thanks to Steve Nichols for his help and dedication to Jerry and Vickie for the past several years. Your kindness did not go unnoticed.
