James Robert “Bob” Cox , age 90, passed away in Waco, Texas on February 19, 2026 to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born in Jacksonville, Texas on August 12, 1935 to Larue and Emma Lena McCorkle Cox and lived in East Texas during his childhood years. He moved to Denton, Texas in 1952 to attend North Texas State College. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1955 he was inducted into the U. S. Army, serving two years as a medical corpsman in the Medical Detachment, Headquarters Company, 32nd Tank Battalion, 3rd Armored Division. In his first year of duty he served at Fort Knox, Kentucky and the following year he was stationed in Friedberg, Germany.
Upon returning from military service Bob completed his Master of Education degree. He taught school in the Northwest I.S.D. and served as principal of an elementary school in Roanoke, Texas from 1958-1960. He moved to Midland, Texas to teach and serve as a public school principal. He married Barbara June Sanders in 1961. Bob retired in 1989 after many years of service in the public schools of Texas. He and Barbara were active members of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland where he led Bible study and served on many committees including as an ordained deacon.
Bob and Barbara moved to Waco, Texas in 2011 to be near their two sons and their families who had spent several years abroad teaching and serving others through their churches.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Barbara Cox of Robinson, TX; son Robert Mark Cox and his wife Alice and their children Faith and Caleb of Temple, Texas; and son James Ben Cox and his wife Wendy of Robinson, TX and their children Jonathan in Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Amy in Melbourne, Australia.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to DaySpring Baptist Church Building Fund (Waco) or your favorite charity.
