Hilda May Shermer

October 20, 1944 — March 1, 2024

Riesel

Hilda May Shaw Shermer passed away at home on March 1, 2024. Following cremation, a service will be held on Sunday March 10, 2024 from 2-4pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. She and her husband will be interred at Riesel Cemetery at a later date.

Hilda was born to Ernest Gay Shaw and Viola Lee Ethridge Shaw on October 20, 1944 in Marlin, Texas. She married Harlan Jerome Shermer at Chapel of The Bells in Reno, Nevada on September 14, 1963. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before his passing on December 26, 2018.

Hilda spent her career working in factories in both the California Bay Area and Central Texas. She retired from M & M Mars in 1999 after 20+ years of service. More than anything Hilda was a hardworking and devoted mother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren whenever the opportunity came. She also enjoyed spending time with her many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Never missing a Shaw Reunion if she could help it.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Marcus, Robert, Cecil, Betty, David Ross, Philip, Nelda and Jackie Paul.

Hilda is survived by her children: daughter, Halena Hellums and husband Jon “Moe” of Deer Park, Texas; and son, Heath Brian “Pee-Wee” Shermer of Riesel, Texas. She also leaves two grandchildren, Jacob Hellums and wife Caisey of Baytown, Texas and Austin Shilling-Shermer of Augusta, Georgia. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Shaw and wife Deanie of Riesel, Texas; sister, Pamela Shaw Garrison of Waco, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Her memory will be cherished by all who loved her and her legacy will live on through her devoted children, remarkable grandsons, loving family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s a charity organization she has faithfully supported for many years.

The family would like to thank the many relatives who called on and cared for her since the passing of her husband. They would like to invite attendees to the family home in Riesel for light refreshments following the conclusion of the memorial.
