Ernest Montemayor

Ernest Montemayor passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026. Ernest was born in Waco, Texas to Lee and Janie Montemayor. He married Cynthia Campos on October 21,1966. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from December 1969 to March 1971. Two of his favorite sports were bass fishing and golf. He at one point was a member of all the Central Texas bass clubs and participated in the bass fishing tournaments. When he was an active member with the PAGA he won first place in his flight at the PAGA national tournament in El Paso. He was always working on improving his golf game and even helping others with their game. Ernest worked for Smiley Optical for many years before having his own business of Hammer Time and Friends. He gave a 100% to his family, business, projects and sports. His three grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Enjoyed talking to others about them and the love and laughter that they brought him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lee and Rudy Montemayor and sister Estella Morales.

He is survived by his wife, a son Brian Montemayor (Sonia); daughter, Maria Delia O’Bryant (Jason) from New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren Pete Perez (Victoria) from Waco; Breanna Sandoval (Sonny) and Bryce Sandoval from New Braunfels, TX; one great grandson, Braylon, three great granddaughters, Aveah Jayde, Olivia Jade and Ava Julianna ; sister Mary Weber from Sheboygan, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. Ernest requested that a formal service not be held upon his death. A private celebration with his immediate family and close friends will be held at a later date.
