Elizabeth "Ann" Henager

September 11, 1942 — April 21, 2026

Waco

Elizabeth “Ann” Henager, born September 11, 1942, passed peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2026.

Ann leaves behind her devoted husband of 58 years, Doug Henager; her children Kevin Henager and wife Tammi, Derek Henager, and Karri Henager; and her treasured granddaughter, Ashley Henager, who held a uniquely special place in her heart. She is reunited with her beloved mother, Cornelia Tanner, and grandmother, Fannie Diggs, likely at the biggest bridge table in the sky.

A lifelong Central Texan, Ann was born in Hillsboro and spent more than 80 years in Waco. A woman of deep faith, she loved fiercely—her family most of all—but also Elvis, gospel music, the Texas Rangers and Baylor Bears, Christmas, travel, fine dining, and playing cards and laughing with her girlfriends. She was an adorable flirt with quite the mischievous streak and, by her own admission, a somewhat degenerate gambler.

Ann was quietly brilliant. She graduated valedictorian of her class at University High School yet carried her intellect with humility and a shy demeanor. A voracious reader, she returned to college later in life to study Sociology after years as a devoted stay-at-home mother. She could type at lightning speed, tolerated her foul-mouthed family with a knowing grin, and surprised many with her unabashedly progressive views.

Her favorite hymn, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee,” reflected both her faith and the quiet way she lived it. All Ann ever wanted was a happy, healthy family—and she gave everything of herself to make that happen. She believed deeply in unconditional love and demonstrated it repeatedly through her extraordinary capacity for grace, forgiveness, and understanding. Her kindness, quiet strength, and enduring love will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A viewing will be held Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Robinson, Texas. A funeral service will follow on Saturday morning, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., also at Pecan Grove Funeral Home.
