Edwina Loy (Gresham) May of Hallsburg TX, 77, passed away peacefully Friday, May 29, 2026, under hospice care BS&W Hillcrest, Waco, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 - 3:00pm, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco TX 76706.
Edwina was born on April 28, 1949, in Waco to Roy Lee and Ruth (Gummelt) Gresham of Mooreville, TX. Edwina was named after her Uncle, 2nd Lt. Edwin Gresham, who served and gave all in WW2. Life started out in Mooreville where her parents were partners in Carnes and Gummelt Dusting Machines. As she grew older the family moved to Lorena and Robinson areas where she attended school in both communities. This is where her love of horses grew. While at Lorena, she was honored as an FFA Sweetheart and enjoyed competing in Western Pleasure horse competitions, earning many trophies along the way. Her love for animals remained constant throughout her life. Edwina spent many years working as a waitress and cashier at Lonestar Tavern Steakhouse, where she made lasting friendships before retiring after 20 years of service. More than anything, Edwina enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed going out to eat, gathering around the table for card games, especially playing Phase 10 with her close friend and cousin, Sandra Kelly. She also loved reading a good thriller book and never missed her favorite soap operas including General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.
Edwina was preceded in death by her parents; her childhood sweetheart and former husband, James “Jimmy” May; her former husband, James Ray Armstrong; and her niece, Ronda Bowser.
She leaves behind her daughter, Shawn Lee May-Bray Gilmore; her granddaughter, Kimber Lee Bray; her sister, Katherine “Kitty Ruth” Carnes Others; her brother, Albert Dudley Carnes; her nieces, Verjeana Gurley, Sharla Bannenberg, Susan Carnes, Alisha Harper, and her little chihuahua Cassie; along with other family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Memorials may be made in Edwina’s name to Fuzzy Friends Rescue, 6321 Airport Rd, Waco, TX 76708, or fuzzyfriendsrescue.com/donate.
