Donald Taylor Golden was born on March 14, 1936, in Petersburg Tx, the sixth child and baby of his family born to Roy Felix Golden and Leone Yancey Golden. He passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024.
Later his family moved to Mountain Grove, Mo., where they had a beautiful dairy farm called “Persimmon Grove”. Daddy was no stranger to hard work from his childhood and it served him well throughout his life on farms and ranches. He finally retired for good at the age of 80 yrs.
We children will miss that twinkle in his eye and his sense of humor, his pans of chocolate fudge he made to perfection with real cream and lots of pecans, and we still wish we could have the scrapings from the pan with a cold glass of milk one more time.
Our daddy loved to sing. Not just a little either. He sang to mother on their first date, and he taught us all our love for singing gospel songs as we were growing up. He had a strong lead voice and a great pitch. Till the week before he passed away, he was still praising God when he was happy.
At the age of 17 he met our mother, Juanita Maud Carthel, when she was 15, and it was love at first sight. Many a letter passed between them during the next 2 years as she was from Lockney, Tx. They were married on June 1st, 1955. To this union 5 children were born.
Juanita preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 2022, after 67 yrs of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, son, Terry Golden in 1992; four sisters and one brother; and three grandsons, Benjamin Golden, Zane McMullen, and Justin Golden.
He is survived by his four children, Larry Golden and wife Lydia of Meridian, TX, beloved daughter in law, Kathy Golden Laney of Waco, Tx, daughter Kyla McMullen and husband Kevin of Waco, TX , John Golden of Riesel, TX, DeLohn Golden and wife Alicia of Crawford, TX; and his 13 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
Special thanks go to St. Anthony’s Care Center nurses and staff and Concho Hearts Hospice.
