David Lee Wollard passed into his heavenly home on June 14, 2025 in Baylor Scott & White – Hillcrest Hospital surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life will be held at SPJST Hall in Elk, Texas on Saturday, June 28th at 5:00 p.m.
David was the first-born son to Roy Lee Wollard and Agatha Cecile (Little) Wollard on January 29, 1944 at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Waco, Texas. He attended Waco public schools, graduating from Richfield High in 1963, and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. David married Linda Dianne Nettles on January 21, 1971 in Blooming Grove, Texas. They immediately moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi where their first-born son, Billy Tom, was born. They returned to Waco in 1973 and bought an old farmhouse, plus a few acres, in the Oak Lake-Elk community. In 1976 their second son, Joseph Lee Wollard, was born. It has remained their family homeplace since they loved it from the moment they saw it.
David enjoyed a lot of activities through the years, but as a young man he dedicated himself to riding bulls on the rodeo circuit. He began riding as a teenager and later joined the Rodeo Cowboys Association and traveled almost every state in the United States – even Canada, until 1973 when he rode his final bull at the Heart of Texas Fair and Rodeo in Waco. His love for family was most important. He never missed his boys baseball, football or basketball games, and enjoyed fishing, riding four wheelers, teaching them how to drive out in the pasture, and watching them ride steers and the bucking barrel. He supported his grandchildren in every way, attended all of their activities, loved teaching them the same as his boys, and playing lots of dominoes, card games and Farkle. David was a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers and never turned down the opportunity to have a cold beer with friends.
David’s work career included Scott Riddle Insurance Agency, Central Freight Lines, Halo Distributing Company and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until his medical retirement in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Agatha Wollard; and brother, William Douglas Wollard.
David is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda; son, Billy Tom Wollard and companion Pam of Bellmead, Texas; son, Joseph Lee Wollard and wife Leah of Lorena, Texas; granddaughter, Kalynn Lee Wollard of Heath, Texas; grandson, Reid Wollard of Lorena, Texas; granddaughter, Lanna Brooke Wollard of Norman, Oklahoma; great-granddaughter, Cooper Eloise Crook; step-grandchildren, Thomas, Kelsie and Addie Graham; brother, Roy Don Wollard.
