David Wayne Wiley

August 4, 1956 — November 10, 2025

Eddy

On Monday, November 10, 2025 David “Gator” Wiley, a beloved husband, father, Poppy and friend, passed away peacefully after courageously battling the effects of a stroke he suffered nearly ten months ago.

Born in Waco, Texas on August 4, 1956. David was raised down the road in McGregor, Texas. He attended schools in McGregor and Crawford, making lifelong friends and developing a love for the outdoors. In his younger years, he had a fearless spirit — “Gator” enjoyed bull riding, motocross, and spending long days outside with friends.

Gator married the love of his life, Susan Whitley in June of 1981, and together they shared 44 wonderful years filled with devotion, lots of love, and countless memories. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, usually while also watching his Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers. His favorite pastime was cheering on his children and grandchildren in any sport, hobby, or passion they pursued. He was always their biggest fan.

Throughout his working life, Gator was known for his strong work ethic and easygoing nature. He worked at Mobil Chemical in Temple, Huck Manufacturing in Waco, and later found great pride in his years of service at Bruceville-Eddy ISD, where he could always be found helping anyone however he could.

Gator was preceded in death by his parents, D.B & Joyce Wiley, sister Debra Wiley Bottoms, brother Darrell Wiley & infant-nephew Michael Bottoms all of McGregor.

He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Eddy. His children Chris Wiley & wife Jennifer of Eddy, Misty Fletes & husband Billy of Eddy and son John Wiley of West; Grandchildren Emiley Carnes, Noah Wiley, Paizlee Wiley, Owen Wiley, Emma Wiley, Hunter May & fiancé McKenzie, Kendal May, Gavin Wren, Chloe Fletes, Dean Fletes & wife Victoria; Great Grandchildren Caiden & Colter May, and Owen Fletes, and many nieces and nephews “Gator” loved as his very own. He had brothers- and sisters-in-law who became like family in every sense of the word, and many friends who held a special place in his heart.

Gator will be remembered for his big heart, his sense of humor, and his love for family and friends. His presence made every gathering brighter, and his kind spirit will live on through those who loved him most.

The family would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to the administration & staff of St. Anthony’s Retirement and Care Center of Woodway for their wonderful care of Gator during his time there.

Donations can be made to the Bruceville-Eddy Ex Student’s Association P. O. Box 81, Eddy, Texas 76524.
