Danny Hegefeld

July 16, 1957 — July 4, 2023

Danny Craig Hegefeld, of Chilton, Texas passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023. In the last week of his life, he was continually surrounded by all of his girls, sons-in-law, and dutifully cared for by his wife.

Danny Hegefeld was born in Dallas, Texas on July 16, 1957 and was raised in Marlin Texas by his parents, Louis and Jean Hegefeld. He was united in marriage to Diane McDougald, June 17, 1977. Danny was a loyal and committed husband, an amazing daddy, a silly PawPaw, a sports enthusiast, a lifelong truck driver-aka “SloPoke”, and truly the hardest working man we all know.

Danny graduated from Marlin High School in 1976 and met the love of his life while getting his hair cut. He retired from Pepsi-Cola in 2011, but quickly hired on with Big Creek Construction where he continued his love for driving semi-truck tractors until March 2023. Danny loved sports of all kinds, but especially football, softball, and Nascar. He loved playing games with his family like dominoes, Hand and Foot, Risk, and Monopoly. He was very competitive, hated losing, (just like his mother - aka MIMI) and was affectionately accused at every game night of cheating. He managed to pass that character trait down to his daughters and even some of his granddaughters. No one had more fun during game nights than he did.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Jean Hegefeld, his oldest brother, Dennis Carpenter, and nephew Joshua Carpenter.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years; Diane Hegefeld, daughter Dana Overcast and husband Justin, daughter Dena Hegefeld and partner Greg Lentini, and daughter Denae Ramirez and husband John; grandchildren, Miranda Overcast, Mallori Overcast, Dani Gibbs, Aubrie Gibbs, Taylor Gibbs, and his first grandson due this fall; brother Ricky Hegefeld and wife Oralee and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

A special thank you to Amedisys for their help and tender loving care.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date due to the sudden and unexpected loss. In remembrance of Danny’s life, the family asks that you leave your fondest memories on the website and or his daughter’s social media pages. Any charitable contributions can be made to The Heart of Texas Fair & Rodeo Scholarship Fund, in Danny Hegefeld’s name.
