On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Heaven rejoiced as Carol Ann Hancock was given her wings and joined her Lord and Savior in everlasting Glory. She will be laid to rest at 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 6, at Proctor Cemetery, CR 335 in Proctor, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday, August 5, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive in Waco.
Married for more than a quarter-century to her faithful husband, Ronald Gene Hancock, Carol was “Grandma” to a joyous host of relatives – many of whom were grandchildren, some of whom were great-grandchildren, a few of whom were “adopted” grandkids, but all of whom she deeply cherished. Among those who referred to her as “Grandma” were seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren - the pride of her life. Carol’s selfless generosity impacted generations of family, including her loving daughters, Christina Smith, Jeanie Willis and Tricia Loughridge, to whom she maintained a life-long devotion. She is also survived by her brother, David Werner (and his wife, Gail); her sister-in-law, Sue Werner; her stepdaughter, Terri Cobb; and stepson, Steve Hancock.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; by her son, Clifton Emerson Turman; and by her brothers, Gerald Werner and Denny Werner.
Carol was born on March 20, 1944, to Leslie Emerson and Pauline Ida (Grimsley) Werner in the city of Troy, Ohio. She attended Palmetto High School in Miami, FL. An attentive, creative homemaker for much of her life, Carol also worked outside the home as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, serving patients and their families at King’s Daughters Hospital in Temple, Texas. Carol is remembered by her family as a sweet and generous mother, a kind and giving grandmother, and a thoughtful and selfless friend who loved to laugh and would do “anything for anybody.”
Pallbearers will be Matt Blanchard, Christian Blanchard, Alex Loughridge, Sean Parker, Eric Smith, Jr. and Daniel Sumabat.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s name to Lungevity or the American Cancer Society.
