Bernell Bezanson

Bernell (Bernie) Bezanson, age 91, passed away Friday, September 18, 2026 at her residence.

Bernell was born at her family’s farmhouse on October 12, 1934 in Brenham, Texas to Rudolph and Erma (Buck) Gaskamp. She attended Hoddeville and Burton schools. Bernell met the love of her life, Frederick E. Bezanson and they married on June 18, 1960. Bernell worked at Gulf State Paper in Waco, and later became a homemaker.

She and Fred both enjoyed camping, dancing, and had unconditional love for their pet dogs. Together they spent 28 blissful years before he passed away. Bernell was a strong, independent woman. She handled all her affairs herself. She mowed and edged her own lawn, keeping it pristine up to a year ago! Her home was always immaculate, everything organized and in its place. She loved country music, polka, and could two-step and waltz around a dance floor, or in her back patio floor. That same patio held many fun nights playing games, such as Yahtzee, cards, dominos, or Wahoo!

Bernell was a lifelong member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and a devoted Christian. Due to her declining health, she became a shut-in, and continued to keep her faith through all her trials and tribulations. She enjoyed those monthly visits with her sisters in Christ, and Pastor Kolb for the home visits. Bernell will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her humorous wittiness, and funny personality. She was a selfless person, putting other needs in front of her own.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings William and Louise, nephews Gary and Mike Glaesmann, sister-in-law Beatrice Gaskamp and brothers-in-law Ignatius (Jack) Hutyra and Robert Glaesmann.

Bernell is survived by her sister Rosalie Hutyra, brother Rudy Gaskamp Jr., sister-in-law Sally Gaskamp, nieces Barbara Carter (William), Kim Gaskamp, and Brenda Robinson (Rod). Nephews, David Gaskamp and Kenneth Hutyra (Maria). Several great nieces and nephews, her beloved dog Zoey, friend Sherry Pizzo, and her next door neighbor Vicki Taylor.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Vicki for always watching out for Bernell and helping her when needed. They were friends for more than 40 years.

In lieu of flowers, please donate a memorial fund to St. Mark Lutheran Church in her honor, or a charitable contribution to the American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
