Antonio 'Tony' Soto Marquez

Antonio “Tony” Soto Marquez, 94, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 21, 2026. Tony will be in state for viewing from 11am-7pm on Wednesday, September 23, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, September 24, at Waco Memorial Park.

Born on December 18, 1931 in Waco, Tony was the oldest son of Joe Marquez Sr. and Amelia Soto Marquez. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepson, John Henry Zapata and brothers, Joe S. Marquez Jr. and Paul S. Marquez.

Tony was married to his beloved wife, Faye Z. Marquez for 60 years. Together they adopted and lovingly raised their granddaughter as a baby.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory; his wife, Faye; granddaughter/daughter, Elicia Nicole Benns and husband, Reginald Benns Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren whom he adored selflessly, Destiny Michelle Zapata and Reginald Antonio Benns; 5 nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews

Tony served in the Army Reserve and dedicated more than 50 years of his life as a beverage distributor where his strong work ethic and dedication were a reflection of the man he was.

Outside of work, Tony enjoyed boxing, fishing, and the outdoors. You could find him at any given time at Lake Waco or the Brazos River. He also had a special place in his heart for all animals, wild or pets. Equally important were his sweets, ribs, and spicy salsa.

Tony leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and selfless love. He will be remembered as a dependable man who stood by his word and had the sweetest, purest heart. His life was a testament to the strength of a good man. The warmth of his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him forever.
