Annie Lee McCarver Davis entered her heavenly home on March 29, 2024 at the age of 100 years old! She was born on November 10, 1923 on a farm near Kosse in Limestone County, Texas. She was born to loving parents, William Arthur McCarver and Loucia Burns McCarver. She had 5 siblings; Pauline Turnipseed, Juanita Allen, Travis McCarver, Howard McCarver and Vera McCarver, all of whom have entered Heaven’s gates before her.
Annie Lee and her family moved to Falls County when she was 4 years old where they lived in the Alto Springs community. She worked hard on the family farm, tending crops of sorghum and cotton, caring for livestock, and she enjoyed riding her favorite horse “Prince” to high school. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Marlin Hospital in the early 1940’s, moved to Waco in 1945 and began working at Owens Illinois Glass Plant, where she would retire after 30 years of service. Annie Lee met Talmage E Davis, a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, at a local car hop near the Waco Circle in 1951 and they were married in early 1952. He was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base, and they remained married until his death in 1996. They were blessed with 3 daughters over a span of 4 years. As a family they enjoyed many memorable trips to the Rio Grande Valley to visit family during summers and holidays. Annie Lee enjoyed countless Saturday morning garage sale and estate sale adventures with all her daughters and found great joy in finding bargains and exciting treasures. She was always amazed at how long she had lived, and how relatively healthy she had always been. She lived through 18 presidents and up until about 4 weeks before her death, she could probably name each one of them and tell you what political party they were affiliated with. She loved to watch the news, especially the weather, and was always the family “go-to” for updates on current events and when it was going to rain. She was our “go-to” for just about anything and the whole family had an understanding that if you couldn’t remember something… just ask grandma- she will know.
Annie Lee was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was cherished by everyone who knew her and her soft caring spirit. She believed and would tell anyone who would listen, that she had the most wonderful family in the world. She was so incredibly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and all their accomplishments and achievements. The grandchildren and great grandchildren loved to hear her stories of the “old days” and the differences in life back then compared to now.
She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Waco where she formed many special memories and friendships. She is preceded in death by her parents, all 5 of her siblings, daughter Betty Davis Holt and son-in-law Don Peterson. She is survived by daughters Gail Keen and husband David, Delores Oliver and husband Jeff, 5 grandchildren, Heather Oliver Goss and husband Byron, Jeffrey Oliver and wife Shelly, Sara Holt Mahoney and husband Brandon, Chad Peterson and wife Allison and Michelle Holt Wiesner and husband Patrick, 8 great-grandchildren, Dylan Goss, Emily Goss, Mark Mahoney, Kinley Oliver, Presley Oliver, Ally Mahoney, Connor Peterson, and Charlie Peterson. She is also survived by special niece Glenda Acklen and several other nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
The visitation to honor Annie Lee will be at Pecan Grove Funeral Home on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at 12 pm with services to immediately follow at 1pm. Burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park in Waco, TX.
