Adell Fisher

May 17, 1931 — February 14, 2024

Adell Elizabeth Fisher, of Waco, “Dell” to friends and “Granny Dell” to family, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2024.

Dell was born May 17, 1931 to Estel Elmer and Elsie Watts Whitener at Raleigh in Navarro County, Texas. She was raised in the cotton fields of Navarro County. Her family owned a grocery store in Raleigh that she worked at as a child. This would follow her into adulthood, as she spent 25 years working for H.E.B grocery stores in Waco.

Dell had a lifelong love of music. She sang and played guitar, piano and bass. She always said that her brother “Fuzzy” taught her to play guitar so that she could play with him and he could play lead. She passed this love of music to her family. Dell also loved to dance and she and her husband Carl went every time they got a chance. They lived life to the fullest, going dancing with friends and often playing bingo on Friday nights. They were soulmates and made a beautiful life together. Granny loved having children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great grandchildren come over for any occasion. Christmas Eve was always spent at Granny’s. Granny made everyone feel special. She had such a generous and giving heart. You knew she loved you.

Dell was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Carlton Lee Fisher; her parents, her sister Maudine Wright, brothers Ralph Whitener, Rufus Whitener and Derwood “Fuzzy” Whitener.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Putman and wife June of Emmett, Texas, Vicky Conway of Hewitt, Texas and Carlton Fisher, Jr of Waco, Texas. Grandchildren Sharon Burleson and husband Steve of Emmett, Karen Boyd and husband Alan of China Spring, Troy Horn of Hewitt and Dustin Horn and wife Joslyn of Lorena. Great-Grandchildren Elizabeth Reed and husband Joe of Emmett, Josh Burleson and wife Elaina of Emmett, Elijah Burleson of Waxahachie, Johnathan, Jacob, and Jayci Burleson of Emmett, Chase and Presley Horn of Lorena, Ryder and Rumor Horn of Hewitt. Great-Great Grandchildren Leah and Waylon Burleson and Lilly and Hayes Reed all of Emmett.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 from 6-8pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Waco. Graveside service will be Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10 am at Dresden Cemetery with Steve Burleson officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Troy Horn, Dustin Horn, Alan Boyd, Joe Reed, Josh Burleson, Elijah Burleson and Jacob Burleson.
