Woody Stroud

Woody Stroud, a life-long resident of Waco, TX, passed away September 9, 2022 at the age of 85; after battling complications from recent health issues.

Woody was born in Waco on July 11, 1937. He graduated from University High School, attended the University of Houston and Baylor University, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany for 18 months. Afterwards, he returned home and joined the Waco Fire Department (eventually becoming a Lieutenant), serving Waco for 17 years. He left the department, and around 1974 attained a Security Alarm License, and started his own company, Stroud Security Systems. Stroud Security Systems would go on to serve the greater Waco/Temple/Killeen area for over 48 years.

Woody had a tireless work ethic and liked to stay busy. When he was not working, he loved to golf, bowl, and play pool with friends. As an avid Baylor sports fan, he loved attending football games at the old Floyd Casey Stadium, and basketball games at the Heart of Texas Colosseum and Ferrell Center. Since 1975, he made an annual trip to Wurstfest, with his loving wife, Sandy, and any friends who wanted to join. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected friend who lived to serve the Waco community.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Nina Monroe, and step-father, Jimmy Monroe.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Stroud (Duty). They married on March 19, 1976, and were partners in all aspects of their lives, working side-by-side at Stroud Security Systems and enjoying leisure time with friends.

He is also survived by his children and grandchildren: daughter, Shelli Stroud Cross her children, Morgan Kristine Cross and Robert Lee Cross; step-daughter, Kelly Simons, boyfriend Mark Walter, and grandchildren Kellsy Macdonald and Kris Macdonald; and son, Stephen Stroud and wife Emily, grandsons, Aidan and Dean.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3424 N. Robinson Drive Waco, TX 76706. A funeral service will be held at Pecan Grove on Friday, September 16th at 1 p.m. and a graveside service will be held after at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S. 5th St. Waco, TX 76706.
