Wendell Seitzler

September 8, 1949 — August 17, 2022

Wendell Cecil Seitzler joined our Lord and Savior on August 17, 2022, with Suzy by his side. Wendell fought a courageous battle of multiple myeloma since 2017.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20 at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco, with Pastor Robert Nelson officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.

Wendell and Suzy were married January 28, 1994 and had 28 cherished years together.

Wendell was preceded in death by his dad, Cecil Seitzler and wife, Pat; mother, Jerry Clanton and husband, Kyle.

Wendell was a strong and generous husband to Suzy and father to Peyton. He led by example and his love for Suzy and Peyton was immeasurable.

He taught Peyton how to play baseball at 1 year old, as soon as Peyton started to walk. He taught him the rules and logistics of the game and critiqued every game as a learning tool for Peyton. He stood for endless hours watching every play and his devotion to Peyton was unwaivered. He took Peyton to every game of soccer, basketball, football, and baseball until Peyton had to ride the bus with teammates. They traveled many states to play baseball, made many friends along the way and those memories were the best memories of Wendell’s life. Wendell’s most accomplished goal in life was being with Peyton every moment allowed. Suzy often referred to them as “peas and carrots”. Wendell was most proud of Peyton playing baseball for the University of Texas.

Wendell was owner of Butler Bail Bonds and purchased this company from retired Waco Police Department Lieutenant, Dell Butler. Mr. Butler took Wendell “under his wing” and Wendell was in the bail bond business for approximately 40 years until his illness.

Wendell was a Vietnam Veteran and served his country from 1968 to 1971. He was a passionate blood donor and donated into the gallons until he medically could no longer do so.

Wendell is survived by his wife, Suzy (Moore), son (grandson) Peyton Powell; sons, Bo Powell and wife Suzanne, Clay Powell and wife Lauren; “special girl”, Tori Powell Gladden and husband, Codie and son, Rhett; daughter, Wendi Davis; grandchildren, Tate Saulters, Trey Powell, Caitlyn Powell, Carleigh Powell, Jacob Savage, Samantha Savage and Taylor Davis; brother, Larry Seitzler; sister Janis George; sister-in-law, Kathy Griffith; nephews, Brandon Seitzler and Travis George; nieces, Ronda Peeler and Amanda Seitzler; mother-in-law, Dorothy Gibson; sister-in-law, Stacey Gibson; his and Peyton's dog, Sadie; close friend, Ray Black; and a host of many friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ofobuike Okani and the Texas Oncology staff, Dr. Brian Berryman and staff at Baylor Medical in Dallas, Tx., the Providence doctors and staff and St. Catherine’s Hospice staff for Wendell’s exceptional care.

The family wishes to thank those in the Robinson Community that assisted him and Suzy during this difficult journey, especially Tony and Karen Ashcraft and John and Shawn Simpson. Everyone’s love and support will never be forgotten.

Pallbearers Jake Strain, Christopher Morrow, Mason Cooper, Braden Pritchett, and David Williams, Jr. were chosen due to their friendships with Peyton. Wendell loved and mentored to influence them about being “good boys”.

The family has requested no flowers please. Instead, please consider a donation to Wendell’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

“We know that our body – the one we live in here on earth – will be destroyed. But when that happens, God will have a house for us. It will not be a house made by human hands; instead, it will be a home in Heaven that will last forever.” –2 Corinthians 5:1
