Michael Joe Coy of Hubbard passed away Monday, May 31, 2021. Mike was born on April 6, 1950, in Dalhart, Texas, to Oscar Jay Coy and Lois Fletcher Coy. Due to family difficulties, he lived at Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch for 9 years. There he excelled in football, basketball, and track. Because he exhibited outstanding qualities of leadership and responsibility, he was appointed to the Junior Staff while at Boys Ranch.
On March 2, 1974, Mike married Jeanne Lou Driskill and they were blessed to celebrate 47 years of marriage and two beautiful children, Josh and Amber.
Mike was a highway patrolman for the Texas Department of Public Safety. He later became a deputy sheriff for Randall County Sheriff’s Department. Mike became the criminal investigator for the Randall County District Attorney until August of 1993.
At that time Mike had a career change and the family moved to Sayre, Oklahoma, where they purchased and ran Sayre Livestock Auction and later Elk City Livestock Auction for 9 years. Mike’s next phase was to move the family to Hubbard, Texas, where he and his son Josh started a trucking business and a horse and cattle ranch, which they presently run.
Mike and Jeanne and their children and grandchildren had many wonderful experiences during his life working together, going to rodeos, and fishing in Colorado.
We have decided to respect Mike’s wishes and only have a family gathering to spread his ashes on the ranch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Sam Elver, and in-laws G P and Betty Driskill.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; his son Josh and wife Brittney of Hubbard; his daughter Amber Coy and friend James Terry of Waco; his grandchildren, Ryan, Bailey, Brynn and Harper; his sister, Linda and husband Gary Haynie of Amarillo; his sister Theresa McNutt of Florida; brother-in-law David and wife Kathy Driskill of Amarillo; sister-in-law Jana and husband Ronnie Carpenter of Quitaque, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or the American Cancer Society.
