Michael “Mike” Wayne Alton, 61, lifelong resident of Moody, TX, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, at the Moody High School Gymnasium, 11862 Lone Star Parkway, Moody, TX, with Pastor Lee Casey officiating. Burial will follow at Moody Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive, Waco.
Mike was born October 26, 1960, in Waco, TX, to Harold Ray and Jo Marie (Patrick) Alton. He was raised and attended school in Moody, TX. He graduated from Tarleton State University in 1983 and was a past member of the Purple Poo. In 1983 Mike married Bonnie Whitley. He taught Ag at Moody High School for 39 years. Go Bearcats! He also was the MC at the Moody Bearcat pep rallies. He was a member of the McLennan County Livestock Board for 35 years and the HOT Calf Scramble for 35 years. Mike was very active in his community. He served on the city council for 5 years before becoming the mayor of Moody for 17 years. He was also a member of the Moody Volunteer Fire Department and served as the chief for the past 25 years. He was also the past president of the Bluebonnet Water Board.
Mike was an amazing husband, father and grandfather and he never met a stranger. He went to his kids and grandkids stock shows, roping and sporting events. He coached little league and softball for many years. He was a loyal servant who touched so many lives with his kindness and compassion for others.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Jo Marie Alton.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Bonnie Alton; children, Lacey Flynn and husband Mick; Garrett Alton and wife Ashley; grandchildren, Cooper Flynn, Adalynn Alton, Stonie Brooke Flynn, and Harper Alton; brother, Gary Alton and wife Beth; sister, Amy Washburn and husband Wendell; along with many other family members and friends.
