Juanita Golden

April 15, 1938 — October 27, 2022

Juanita (Carthel) Golden, 84, of Clifton, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM Monday, October 31, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 N. Robinson Dr., Waco, TX 76706. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 1, at 1 PM at the funeral home with Minister Byrl Cogburn and son Larry officiating.
Juanita was the seventh child born to Jimmie and Anna Lois (Blackburn) Carthel. She was born on April 15, 1938 in Lockney, TX.
Juanita’s great grandfather had come to Lockney, TX and settled there in the 1800’s and to this day the whole area is still filled with Cathel’s. Juanita married Don Golden on June 1, 1955. One year into marriage they welcomed baby Larry, two years later, Terry, and in another 2 years, Kyla. The children thought their family was complete but what a happy surprise when told a new addition was expected. They named him John, and 2 years after that, another baby boy DeLohn came to bless the family.
Juanita shared many stories of her childhood growing up, but a favorite is when she was small, the family moved to Comanche, OK and her younger sister Verna, 2 years younger, was asked when starting school there if she was an Indian? Not knowing what that was, she replied “No I’m Church of Christ!!” We’re proud to say our parents were “Church of Christ” their whole lives and raised us kids up in the Lord’s church called by “His” name.
Juanita was a farmer’s wife her whole married life, there was only one period in which she worked a public job, when she first married and had Larry. One day when she went to check on him, she found him crying in his crib and that was all it took, she always said. She called the phone company on the spot and said “I won’t be back”. From then on her only job was being a mother, which wasn’t easy, as all mothers know, especially raising 5 children.
Juanita is preceded in death by her son Terry (1992); and 3 grandsons, Benjamin Golden (1978), Zane McMullen (1980), and Justin Golden (1992).
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don Golden; 4 children, Larry Golden and wife Lydia, Terry’s beloved wife, Kathy (McMullen) Laney, Kyla McMullen and husband Kevin of Waco, John Golden of Riesel, and DeLohn Golden and wife Alicia of Crawford; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, she is also survived by 2 brothers, Carroll Carthel and wife Marian of AZ, and Joe Carthel and wife Janie of Wildorado, TX; 1 sister, Verna Shannon of CA; a sister-in-law, Joann, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Thank you to all of our family and friends for your kind thoughts and prayers during this time. And a special thank you to the staff of Sunset Home in Clifton and Sunset Hospice who lovingly cared for our mother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mooreville Cemetery Association, 263 County Rd 499A, Chilton, Texas 76632
