Like the Tale of Three Trees, Mrs. Rogers went through seasons of being used by her Abba to carry the light of Jesus to those seeking truth, love, direction, and faith. She grew up shy, but after joining the drama club, she overcame her lisp and brought to life every song she sang and every character she portrayed. Jamie grew up in south Waco and graduated from University High. Her experiences of performing with her siblings, singing Girl Scout songs around the campfire for 11 years, leading Girl Scouts for 6 years with her sister for her daughter, Jeanette, leading Pioneer Club for 10 years for her daughter, Amy, and singing in church led to performing in the drama team at Highland Baptist Church in which she was deeply changed by her role in the Hiding Place. She served as a teacher for 11 years in special education at Carver Special School, then served 33 glorious years as a Montessori Directress at Waco Montessori School touching many children’s lives in their formative years. Mrs. Baker retired in May 2018.
Jamie gave her heart to Jesus at the age of 12. She married her first love, Ross Neal Rogers, on December 25,1968 and both were baptized at Service Memorial Methodist Church. Their 40 year marriage was blessed with 3 God-fearing children and ended only due to Ross's unexpected death in 2008. Jamie enjoyed living abundantly by camping, exploring, hiking, swimming, mountain rappelling, sewing, cooking for everyone with the best homemade pie crust, singing, listening to peaceful music and praise songs, bird watching, dancing and creating prophetic acts with altars and special tables at Hope Ministries.
The last 10 years of her life were spent being an adoring wife to the 2nd great love of her life, Michael Baker, on April 6th, 2013. She received his offspring as her own, spent their time going on adventures during the summer with grandchildren, became active members in their church, and blessed to go on her 3rd trip to Israel with him. She orchestrated a celebration bat/bar mitzvah for each of her grandchildren with a special dinner, memorized scripture verses and prayer. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, animated storytelling, joyous smile, The Peace Table, encouraging words, intercessory prayer, warrior spirit, children’s musical songs, body shaving cream and painting fun, pioneer kitchen works, swinging high, and homemade cooking from the garden.
As a true warrior bride, Jamie Elizabeth Baker gave all the glory to God for His faithfulness in her life and invites all to join her while her life points straight to Father God.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ross Neal Rogers, brother, Norman Timothy Niles, granddaughter Heather Danielle Baker. She is survived by her husband, James Michael Baker, seven children: Michael Darren Baker (Mary Hobgood, fiancée), LeAnn Baker Pannell (Jeff), Jeanette Renee Rogers Robinson (Kevin), Randal James Rogers (Gretta Goodson, fiancée), Terah Shyamali Baker Rash (Kevin), Daymi Erin Baker, and Amy Christine Rogers Stafford (Scott), 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, sister, Debra Jone Niles Golden (David) and brother, Ken Morgan Niles (Candy), numerous nieces, nephews, and sweet, precious friends.
The family would also like to thank the staff of Texas Life Hospice for the care they gave Jamie during these last six months of battle over a five-year diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. To God be the Glory for He has done great things!
