David Russell Hixson was born on November 2, 1959 in Waco TX. He spent much of his childhood in Lorena TX. He graduated in May 1979 from Lorena High School. David attended Texas State Technical Institute where he graduated with an Associate Degree in Instrumentation in July 1981. His career started at Johnson Controls in Carrollton TX where he worked at Cape Canaveral in the early 80’s. In August 1984, he began his career at Mary Kay Cosmetics. He retired from there in November 2014, after 30 years of service, as a Sr. Principal Engineer. David’s as able to travel internationally to Germany and China for his MK engineering projects.

David’s first love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. When he wasn’t helping coach his son’s sports teams or watching band contests and concerts, he was busy sharing God’s love through personal witness and volunteering. He volunteered at food pantries, Kids Eat Free - a kid’s summer meal program, VBS, served on church committees, and helped organize and volunteer for Amigos - a church ministry to rehab low income homes in Dallas. Additionally, David, and wife Robin were active in many ministries at FUMC The Colony, along with organizations - Robinson Area Lions Club, and Heart of Texas Water Garden and Pond Society.

David’s hobbies included researching genealogy, studying the Bible, playing trivia games, and building maintaining garden ponds and aquariums. He also loved to work on cars, woodworking, and cooking for family and friends.

After battling a lengthy illness, David was welcomed into heaven on June 25, 2020.

David is survived by his wife, Robin, of 39 years; son, Austin Hixson and wife, Claire; son, Aaron (Aeris) Hixson; son, Jeremy Caraway and wife, Patrice; and grandchildren - Elyssa, Zachary, Morgyn, Xander, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his mothers - Janice Zellmer and Elizabeth Henderson; brother, Kenny Murr; and sisters, Cyndy Firquin and husband Sam, and Missy Case, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

David’s memorial service is Wednesday July 15, 2020 at 10am at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Freedman officiating. There is a 50 person max at the service. There will be a live stream for out of town family and friends.

It was an honor to have David as a friend and business associate for over thirty years. I learned so much working with him: process engineering, applied automation, distributed process control and so much more! Not sure if i appreciated him insisting that I climb a 20 foot tank to trouble shoot a level transmitter just after getting back to work from a bout with vertigo! David was a leader in engineering , designing new systems, implementing new process instrumentation, all while maintaining and improving the old plant processes that were in place at MK before he arrived.
His work with the church and community was above and beyond the normal call to duty. It was always a pleasure to visit with David in his Mary Kay office which was a presentation of his life. My favorite item was a sign which read MY REAL BOSS IS A JEWISH CARPENTER. We lost a good man when in June but Heaven got a new star!

Every time I wash the floor with a spaghetti mop I think of David. He would tell us about his job washing floors and how you make the figure 8 with the mop to trap the dirt. David was always so full of fun and laughter. Doing floors will always carry a memory of his smile, laugh and presence. See you soon David! With love, Pat Bock.

David started school at Lorena when we were in 4th grade and quickly became my best friend. Our careers paralleled each other over the years and we both became preoccupied with raising our families. David was a fine man devoted to God and his family. Rest In Peace dear friend.
