Bobby Farney

March 11, 1935 — February 17, 2023

Bobby Bryant Farney, 87, of Golinda, TX, went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, February 17, 2023. Visitation will be 10 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor John Rainey of Southside Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Robinson Cemetery.

Bobby was born in Chilton, Texas to R.H. “Bob” and Bessie Pearl (Bryant) Farney on March 11, 1935. He attended Chilton Schools, playing football for Chilton High School. After graduating high school in 1953, Bobby attended Baylor University, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, which he followed up with a Masters Degree in Education and Administrator/Principal Certification. During his years at Baylor, Bobby also participated in Baylor ROTC, which later led him to serve 8 years with the Army National Guard.

While attending Baylor, Bobby married Barbara Herrington of Cego, TX on September 14,1956 in Goldthwaite, TX. Bobby once said that their love was worth its “weight in gold”.Bobby and Barbara lived in the Robinson area until 1965, when they built and moved into their present home in Golinda.

After graduating in 1957, Bobby was hired by Waco ISD to teach science at North Waco Elementary. His mentor, Reo Habern, was also his principal, lifelong friend, and a man Bobby greatly admired and respected. Bobby went on to teach nine years at North Waco where he enjoyed teaching his students, collaborating with his coworkers, and learning leadership skills from Mr. Habern.

After leaving North Waco as a teacher, Bobby was hired as principal at Alta Vista Elementary where he served as principal for 19 years. Bobby was quoted as saying, “Those were the best 19 years of my life.” He spoke fondly of his colleagues who made this time so special, such as Mrs. Lunday, Mrs. Hessner, Mrs. Heath, Mrs. Raines, Mrs. Langford, Mrs. Pack, Mrs. Mayfield, and Mrs. Clark. Bobby built lifelong friendships within the school district, especially Reo Habern, Walter Steinmann, Raymond Weldon, and Wade Herring.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Pearl Farney of Golinda.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Herrington) Farney; son, Joe Marc Farney and wife Debbie of Golinda; daughter, Donita Densmore and husband Brett of Gordonville, TX; granddaughter, Megan (Farney) Ferrell and husband Spencer of Rosenthal, TX; grandson, Matt Farney of Dallas,TX; grandson, Devin Densmore of Reno, NV; great-granddaughter, Brynnleigh Pearl Ferrell; sister-in-law, Linda (Herrington) Farrell and husband Robert of Gatesville, TX , as well as their children and grandchildren. Bobby leaves behind many friends, former co-workers, and former students who were blessed to have known him and who blessed his life immensely.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Bryan Steinmann, Jon Bray, Leeland Buzbee, Doyle Wayne Farney, Bob Mackie, Wayne Bryant, Bob Fuller, and Donnie Bruce.

Honorary pallbearers: Connie Joe Allen, Richard Walker, Raymond Weldon, Joe Bob Hinton, Reo Habern, Wade Herring, Walter Steinmann, Lloyd Farney, Clarke Farney, and A.C. Cromer.

Memorials may be given in Bobby’s name to the American Cancer Society or Community Healthcare of Texas, Waco Office (Hospice care) www.Chot.org/donate.

Your compassionate care and concern for Bobby during this time has meant so much to all of us.

The family also wishes to thank our church family, friends, and relatives for your continued prayers, love, and support. Special thanks to Wanda Duncan for her service, care, and friendship over the past few years. You have been a caring angel for Bobby and Barbara, especially during the past couple of months and we greatly appreciate you.
